Virtues of Salah :) *amazing read*

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim

Surat Al-Fath

29. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those who are with him 

are strong against Unbelievers,

(but) compassionate amongst each other.

Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer)

seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure.

On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration.

This is their similitude in the Towrah;

and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade,

then makes it strong; it then becomes thick and it stands on its own stem

(filling) the sowers with wonder and delight.

As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at him.

Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds

Forgiveness and a great Reward.

All praise is due to Allah for the blessing of Islam and sufficient for us is this blessing.
All praise is due to Allah for the blessing of Guidance; and this Religion of Truth.
And (this religion of truth) is Surrender and Humility that is based on
           knowledge and experience
                  as well as love and yearning
The basis of knowledge in Islam is knowing the Creator and the master of creation.
Indeed no matter how much someone knows about creation, if they know nothing about the Creator it’s as though they know nothing at all.

And no matter how much someone knows about creatures ,if they know nothing about the master of creatures, the Prophet Sallalahualayhiwasalam, it’s as though they know nothing at all.

The basis of knowledge in this religion is upon the two testifications of faith:
Testifying the oneness of Allah and the messengership of Muhammad sallalahualayhiwasalam.

True realization of gnosis only exists when it coincides with experience,
The 5 pillars of Islam came in order to help people realize this experience
So then we have the testification of faith, the establishment of Salah, giving Zakat, fasting Ramadan and Hajj all of which have manners which relate to them and these all reaffirm the meaning of spiritual existence...

To proceed:

Salah is the central pillar of Islam, there are many Quranic verses and haddith that clearly convey this point.
The Prophet Salallahualayhiwasalam said:
‘Those who preserve their Salaah they preserve their deen/religion,
and those who abandon Salaah they destroy their deen/religion’

 Indeed of all the things ordained by Allah, iman and salah are the most valued. If anything was better than Salah surely Allah would have ordained it for His Angels some of whom are always in the different positions of salah, some standing some in Ruku’ some in Sujud etc. All these actions, combined, were performed by the Messengers of Allah...

The Salah of Messengers

The best of creation and Imam of all Messengers, the Beloved of Allah sallalahualayhiwasalam used to perform Salaah before the Night's Journey; Al-Israa and Mi’raj which was the turning point at which Salah became an obligation upon the Ummah of Muhammad sallalahualayhiwasalam.

When Jibril came to teach the Prophet Salaat with the first revelation he said to him:
‘This is the prayer performed by the Prophets before you’
[Reported by ImamTirmidthi Abu Dawud Ahmad from ibn Abbas]

At the end of the first chapter revealed Allah Most-High says:

Surat Iqra’a

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩

19. Nay, heed him not: but prostrate and draw near (to Allah)!

This salah was comprised of wudu and 2 rak’aat with standing, bowing, sitting and prostrating. He and sittena Khadijah and sayyiduna Ali would observe it before it’s obligatory command. SubhanAllah

One day Afif Al-Kindi who was a trade partner of Al-Abbas came out of his house. Houses back then were situated around the Ka’ba in close proximity- no such thing as haram, masjid etc- parameters weren’t set. When he came out he gazed at the Ka’ba and soon he saw another man with an illuminated face come out of his dwelling, with him was a young boy and a woman. They approached the Ka’ba and started doing actions (standing, bowing, sitting and prostrating) that struck Afifi, he was in awe of them and what they were doing. He asked Al-Abbas who they were, Al-Abbas said, the one with the illuminated face is my nephew, the little boy is my nephew also and that lady is his wife Khadijah b. Khuwailid who is one of the noble women of Quraysh.

Abu Talib the uncle of the Messenger salallahualayhiwasalam likewise, was walking in the alley ways of Makkah one day with a friend when he saw Sayyiduna Rasulullah sallahualayhiwasalam and Ali ibn Abi Talib performing salah. They were prostrating, and Abu Talib saw this and said, “By Allah, I know he is right! But there is no way I would topple my head down with my backside in the air!”

He thought it was humiliating that his rear would be raised higher than his head! But subhanAllah! Even though he knew Rasulullah sallalahualayhiwasalam was right he couldn’t bring himself to accept himself ever performing salah! But indeed what is salah except a humbling act before the Lord of all Praise and Majesty and Pride?

Our Prophetic Blessing!!

Now what’s said is the Messengers performed the wudu and 2 rak’aat, BUT the beautiful thing here is: it wasn’t an obligation upon their nations! When the people would pray they would pray in the form of dua but not Salah.  This special act of worship Allah reserved for the nation of Muhammad sallalahualayhiwasalam. ♥
The beautiful thing about this is as follows:

Allah said to sayyiduna Dawood ‘alayhisalam “Love Me and make My creation love Me”. He said “O Allah it is easy for me to love You, but how shall I make the people love you?” He said “Remind them of My favours and blessings upon them” Then He said, that “Towards the end of time there will come a nation that will be given a task that was imposed only on Prophets, so that they can be raised on the Day of Judgement with the noor of the Prophets and enter the Jannah just below the level of the Prophets and Messengers”. This task is none other than Salah and dawa.
How blessed are we!
Shall we not be grateful slaves?

It is the distinguishing sign of piety and taqwa.

It is the means by which a person’s religiosity is gauged.

Salah is the act that distinguishes a Muslim from a Kaffir for one who performs it in its fixed appointed times with sincerity and devotion observing all its rights and regulations, inward and outer, and performing all the mustahhabat actions within it is a true Mu’min; hence why this simple act is a light for the Mu’min and an act that disgraces the devil.
And how many times have we heard this one:

Mothers coming over for purposes of marriage and the first thing they say is “Yes yes! My son is a good boy he prays and fasts” *followed shortly thereafter by a really big smile on her face* :D It’s always been a reference point for religiosity.
Parents aside, its standing in the Shari’ah is huge.

If someone doesn’t perform salah they considered a Fasiq and their Muruah (social standing) will be affected. Simply by seeing this we truly must fear Allah in the matter of Salah, because having either two as a prefix to our names is no small deal! SubhanAllah. If a guardian gives his daughter away in marriage to someone who doesn’t pray he has not fulfilled her right and will be questioned about that on the Day of Judgement. Allahu Akbar!

We are not allowed to befriend people who are neglectful of salah, unless you do so on the basis of dawah, that is inviting them and advising them of the importance of salah; at least to protect yourself from being affect by their state and becoming neglectful yourself. This will inshaAllah serve as a reminder to them and a protection for you. The reality is one friend will influence the other, either you will influence them or they will influence you.
So you best be the doer of change than vice versa.

Descent into the Qabr and Day of Judgement

It is the first action established after faith and ordained by Allah, and it shall be accounted for in the Qabr and the first and foremost thing accounted for on the Day of Judgement.
If your salah is established 5 times a day on time, then your state will be in accordance with that, if it is not and is lacking then your state will reflect that.
If it is found good, then the questioning thereafter will be light, if they are not good then you will be questioned about every other detail in your life and it will be hard!
Why? Because Allah said;

Surat Al-‘Ankabout

45. Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee, and establish Regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of Allah is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And Allah knows the (deeds) that ye do.

Indeed prayer protects from evil and lewed acts. So if one is praying they are protected from many evil acts so they won’t have a lot to answer for, but one who does not pray is not protected so they will have more to answer for, subhanAllah!

There was man who used to steal at the time of the Prophet Sallalahualayhiwasalam, and the companions used to come to the Messenger sallalahualayhiwasalam and say, “O Messenger of Allah, such and such prays with us by day and steals by night!” He said: let him be, eventually Salah will stop him from that evil act. And this is exactly what happened, the man ended up making tawbah and desisted from ever stealing again. Allahu Akbar!

Abu Hurairah RadiyAllahu ‘anhu narrates that once Rasulullah Salallahualayhiwasalam asked his companions
"Do you believe that dirt can remain on a person bathing five times a day in a river running in front of his door?" 'No', replied the companions, "No dirt can remain on his body"
Rasulullah salallahualayhiwasalam remarked:
'So, exactly similar is the effect of Salaat offered five times a day
with the Grace of Allah it washes away all the sins.”
[Bukhari]

Ascension through Salah

During ascension of the Beloved sallalahualayhiwasalam during the Mi’raaj Allah had revealed the obligation of the 5 salah.
There is amazing symbolism in this SubhanAllah!
With all the other acts of worship and belief they were revealed on earth via the Angel Jibreel,
• From Allah to Jibreel
• Jibreel to the Messenger sallalahualayhiwasalam
• The Messenger sallalahualayhiwasalam to his companions
• The companions to the Ummah etc.
But not with salah!
Salah was directly between Allah and the Messenger sallalahualayhiwasalam, as though Allah is saying
With salah, there is no need for an intermediatary between My slaves and I,
They are Mine and I am theirs, no veils, no angels and nothing between us. ♥
And through salah,
Just as the Messenger sallalahualayhiwasalam physically ascended to receive its command,
We too ascend spiritually to Allah!
Allahu Akbar!

Divine Assistance from Allah

When one is in Salah they are so to say; knocking at the door of the Sovereign Lord, and the door is always open for him who knocks. So when a person stands in Salah the gates of Paradise are let open and all the veils between him and Allah are lifted (provided he spoils not his Salah by coughing unnecessarily etc.); what could be more beautiful than this? Lifting veils between you and Allah 5 times a day drawing near and attracting Divine Assistance /Help from Allah. Allah!

Surat Al-Hajj

78. And strive in His cause as ye ought to strive,

(with sincerity and under discipline):

He has chosen you and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion;

it is the religion of your father Ibraham. It is He Who has named you Muslims,

both before and in this (Revelation);

that the Messenger may be a witness for you,

and ye be witnesses for mankind!

So establish regular Prayer give regular Charity,

and hold fast to Allah!

He is your Protector- the Best to protect

and the Best to help!

Hadith Qudsi 25:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:
Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him.
My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties
I have enjoined upon him,
and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him.
When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees,
his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks.
Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him,
and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it.
I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant:
he hates death and I hate hurting him.
[Bukhari]

Hazaifah radiyAllahu ‘anhu says that whenever the Prophet Salallahualayhiwasalam happened to face any difficulty, he would at once resort to Salaat.
Many graduates from the school of Muhammad sallalahualayhiwasalam realised this treasure one of which was Abu Mi’ilka.

Abu Mi’lika of the earlier generations used to travel between cities transporting goods for people. One day he was approached by a man who said, can we travel together? The roads were dangerous back then and so he was asking to go with him for added safety, to keep each other company. He also asked him if he could ride with him on his ride and he will pay him for it. So Abu Mi’lika agreed and they set off for the journey. They reached a fork in the road and he was going to go left, he said no lets go right, Abu Mi’lika said but I always go left, he said no, trust me I always take this road and go right, it’s faster. So he agreed. They eventually reached a dead-end; there was nothing beyond this point. The man dismounted and told him “I’m a bandit, I am going to rob you then kill you”. Abu Mi’lika obviously shocked at this said, “Ok you can take my things that’s fine! But why kill me!” He said “No, that’s not how it works, see all these bones and carcases, they were my previous victims. Your fate is their fate”.  He said “Can you at least let me pray two final rak’at!?” He said “Yeah sure, you can pray, but it’s not going to do you much good, they all asked for the same, didn’t change anything”.
So Abu Mi’lika dismounted and began to pray, he was obviously   terrified at the fact that he had a killer standing behind him waiting for him to give taslim so he can behead him with his sword- he was in so much fear that when he began his salah he couldn’t remember any Quran! He couldn’t even remember the fatiha! All he could remember was one verse from the Quran from

Surat An-Naml

62.  Or, who listens to the (soul) distressed when it calls on Him, and who relieves its suffering, and makes you (mankind) inheritors of the earth? (Can there be another) god besides Allah? Little it is that ye heed!

He just kept repeating this over and over and over again. As he was praying he heard a thud! When he finished and he turned around to see what had happened he found a man covered in Armour from head to toe standing before the body of the bandit which was now on the floor and up in flames! He looked at him in shock and said, “Who are you that Allah sent to rescue me!?” (He didn’t say O thank you you saved my life! No, he immediately attributed it to Allah!) He replied: “I am an angel from the fourth level of the Heavens”.
The first time you recited that aya, the Heavens shook.
The second time you recited it I sought permission from Allah to be the one to assist you.
The third time you recited it, I was down here and had killed him.
Allahu Akbar!

Salahudeen al Ayyubi whose entire tarbiya (character refinement) was based on the teachings of the Great Imam Al Ghazzali) was one of the greatest army generals the Ummah had ever seen. He had won many lands and he was undefeated in all his endeavours. When he reached the gates of Al-Quds he was with his army and he was unable to capture it! He knew something was wrong, so he gathered his army to re-assess what they were doing wrong. He realized they were inconsistent with Tahhajud! Not everyone was regular with it! So he trained his army not in warfare and battle! But in Salah! To get them up for Tahajjud every night and remain constant in it. For 6 months they trained, when 6 months had passed they re-entered Al-Quds and conquered it! 
Allahu Akbar!

So what of our state O Muslims? The nusra of Allah is always waiting for us! It’s there, all we have to do is be worthy of it.
No matter how much dua we make, how much YaSin we recite, if we are not diligent with our salah and our tahajjud, we cannot expect the Nusra of Allah to descend. We can only expect it to descend when those who pray Fajr at the Masjid are equivalent to those who pray Jumu’ah on Friday.

A Gift from Allah!

Allah gifted us salah.

Abu Qatadah bin Rab'i RadiyAllahu ‘anhu says, “I heard Rasulullah salallahualayhiwasalam saying
Allah has said."O, Muhammad! I have ordained five times daily Salaat for thy followers. I have made a covenant with Myself that whosoever is regular in performing his Salaat at its fixed hour, he shall be admitted into Paradise. Those of thy followers, who do not safeguard their Salaat, are not included in this covenant.”
[Abu Dawood, Ibn Maja]

The question would then be, why would a gift be made obligatory?
Because Allah knows what’s good for us and we don’t.
That simple.
We don’t know how to do what is in our best interest. In order for us to operate at Maximum capacity we need to feed our spirit, just as we feed our bodies.
We are not human because of our bodies, we are human because of our souls.
We can’t possibly concentrate on one and not the other.
What gives life to our bodies is our soul,
and what gives life to our souls is salah.
If we were left up to our own devices we probably wouldn’t pray. It’s like a child, if they were left up to their own devices they would overdose on chocolate, ice cream and lollipops and think they were being healthy! Lol, because they don’t know how to act in their best interest, that’s why the mother is there telling them eat your veggies, drink your milk and quit the sugar! Lol.

Salah gives you a constant connection to your Creator. It re-energises you throughout the day so that you may continue to work at your optimal level. It gives you a break from work and chores and mundane activities allows you to disconnect, concentrate on your spiritual being, feed it with prostration to its Creator and that suffices you till the next prayer.

Why do we pray 5 times? When you stand before your Lord you enter into His presence. His presence is Light upon Light, by the time you finish your prayer, you have walk away having attained light. As you interact with the material world that light begins to diminish again and depletes. So taking it back 5 times a day gives you enough light to sustain your spiritual being until the next prayer time.

It is undisputed that Salah has specific times as Allah Most-High says in

Surat An-Nisaa

103. Then when you have finished the prayer,

remember Allah standing and sitting and reclining;

but when you are secure (from danger) keep up prayer;

surely prayer is a timed ordinance for the believers.

The Nafs (lower self) finds it hard to submit to Salah. It finds it heavy and burdensome. The truth is there is nothing easier than Salah. It’s 5 mins of light physical movements, and if you think about it people are willing to go to the gym every single day, run on treadmills, jump up and down and what not till sweat drips from their every limb yet comes time for Salah it’s too heavy it’s too burdensome? Your nafs is the greatest obstacle all you have to do is set a routine and remain constant and this will break the nafs.

Gratitude

Salah is a sign of loving Allah, it is the best way for showing gratitude for His favours.

The Messenger Salalalhualayhiwasalam used to pray every night tahhajud until his feet would become swollen sore and blistered.
Sittena Aisha radiyAllahu ‘anha used to ask him, “O Messenger of Allah, why? When you know Allah has forgiven all of your sins (which he never committed anyway) past present and future! He said,
Afalam akun ‘abdan shakura?
Shall I not be a grateful Slave of Allah?
[Bukhari & Muslim]

Allah! How beautiful he is!! ♥

1st obligatory salah and the Origins of salah; 
why 2, 3, 4 Rak’aat?

After the Isra and Mi’raj which occurred during the latter part of the night between Isha and Fajr, the first salah to become an obligation upon the Ummah was salatul Dhuhr.
For this salah it was Sayyiduna Jibreel who descended and performed the salah which was 2 rak’aat with the Messenger sallalahualayhiwasalam behind him,
and behind the Messenger sallalahualayhiwasalam were the companions who could not see Jibreel.
Jibreel was the imam of Rasulullah sallalahualayhiwasalam
and Rasulullah sallalahualayhiwasalam was the imam of the Companions.
SubhanAllah.
Initially all the salawaat were 2 rak’aat, when Allah reveals something that is heavy upon the Ummah He does so in stages and not in one go so as not to overwhelm His slaves, Allah!
Then Allah added 2 to salatul Dhuhr, Asr and Isha
and one to Maghrib
and Fajr remained as is.
This is why when we are travelling Salah is reduced to 2, it is taken back to its original form for ease upon the Ummah. SubhanAllah!

Exemptions for everything! But one!

Salah! Allah makes exemptions for every other act of worship. Zakat, Hajj, Fasting etc.
Cant fast? Fast later or pay the exemption fee if you can’t fast at all due to some ailment or frailty.
Can’t do Hajj? No stress, it’s only for those who physically and financially can go.
Can’t pay zakat because you have not accumulated enough wealth? It’s ok, no sin on you.
But there are no exemptions for Salah! Even if you are on your death bed you have no excuse not to perform your Salah! Having a baby is no excuse either, If one is unable to perform salah standing, let him do so sitting, if he is unable to perform salah sitting let him perform salah laying down- if can’t move at all, all one has to do is imagine themselves in each position and say the corresponding words, if one is unable to say the words out loud, let him do it in their hearts! SubhanAllah!
Are we missing fajr for sleep? These are people on their death beds.

Even in War.
Soldiers can perform the prayer of fear.
If the first row proceeds with takbir, and they enter into ruku’ (bowing) the row behind them begins, so that there is never a point where their guard is weakened. They perform salah with their weapons strapped to them also which otherwise wouldn’t be permissible.
 This is the command of Allah subhana wata’ala and He knows best our needs and the needs of our soul. So that even at times of war even soldiers are receiving benefit from Salah- contrary to .

Allah says in

Surat an Nisaa,

102. When you (O Messenger. are with them, and stand to lead them in prayer, Let one party of them stand up (in prayer) with you, Taking their arms with them: When they finish their prostrations, let them Take their position in the rear. And let the other party come up which has not yet prayed - and let them pray with you, Taking all precaution, and bearing arms: the Unbelievers wish, if you were negligent of your arms and your baggage, to assault you in a single rush. But there is no blame on you if you put away your arms because of the inconvenience of rain or because you are ill; but take (every) precaution for yourselves. For the Unbelievers Allah has prepared a humiliating punishment.

Missing Salah because you fear your boss/co-workers/family/non-Muslims? SubhanAllah, it’s nothing more than an illegitimate fear.

All success is with Allah

Surat An-Nisaa

162. But those among them who are well-grounded in knowledge, and the Believers,

believe in what hath been revealed to thee; and what was revealed before thee; and

(especially) those who establish regular prayer and practise regular charity

and believe in Allah and in the Last Day:

to them shall We soon give a great reward.

Sometimes you don't have to be a scholar to have the death of a scholar...

Asalamualaykum,

I really wanted to share a story about this woman.
A beautiful woman who I hope we can take a beautiful lesson from inshaAllah ta'ala, and through it realise how Immensely Merciful and Loving Allah is to His creation.
She was a woman who in year 5 decided she didn't like school and basically dropped out lol, she was illiterate. She preferred cooking and cleaning and housework. She loved it. And her favourite was sewing, she loooooved to sew.

She got married to Mohammed Abdallah Mohammed Sa'd, she had 3 beautiful girls and a boy, these girls had a beautiful interaction with each other, subhanAllah I would liken their relationship to family friends- siblings- but unlike siblings of today (at least) they were very respectful to each other.

Her son would tell her that he wanted a fseekh sandwhich for school lollolol- for anyone who doesnt know what fseekh is its super salty (yummy) fish, and when his teacher found out she called his mum in, and she said forgive him, he really wanted fseekh lol. And on other days she'd cross the road in the morning to give him a cup of milk and she'd tell the teacher that he didn't have his cup of milk in the morning lol.

She never really bothered learning how to read and write, she once told her grandaughter- very happily- that she used to be able to sign her name- her heart was in her household, cooking, cleaning and sewing.

She would sew all her clothes and clothes for other people.In fact, when she got married she cut her own wedding dress to sew dresses for her eldest daughter. Her husband used to tell her to stop sewing, that she doesn't need the money and that he provides for her, but she couldn't really help it and continued to sew anyway for poor people and give it to them.

She was always considerate of her neighbours and they loved her. She lived in a house full of foreigners- Greeks- and when Gamal Abdul Nasser decided to exile all foreigners from Egypt they left in tears and after long years had passed some would come back to visit her. Even when the new neighbours came, they would drop by to see her. She would get the young kids to go get her fish from the fish market and they'd come back and shed stand just outside her house and cook them fish and yell for them to come get it when it was ready.

Years went passed and her husband had passed away.
Her grandchildren used to joke with her that they're going to find her a new husband and she'd laugh and say "la" and raise her index finger in protest.

One by one she heard news of her siblings passing away, her sisters Badi'ah, Aminah, Halima, Khadijah and her three brothers, Mahmoud, Abdul Latif and Ahmad... She being the youngest of all.

She loved her grandson reciting surat al Fajr, she didn't understand fusha, but she loved to hear the Quran recited. She would tell him again Mahmoud, recite it again for me, again and again; and he would and she particularly loved the words of the verse "Dakkan Dakka". Many times when she would just sit and stare ahead, her granddaughter would ask her, what are you thinking about Teta? And she would say "Rabona" and she'd gesture her hand in a way to imply, who else?

Her grandaughters would ask her to recite the three quls and fatiha and she would, not the whole Quran but just those and by Allah although she was weakened she would recite them slowly and surely all verses in place- and when she would it was as though she was reciting a treasure in her heart that she loved to hear herself and was pleased to share.
She used to go to Jame' al Mawasa in Alexandria her city of 83 years (only leaving it once to do Umrah) and pray Jumu'ah there every Friday.

Alas time crept away and she was unable to go because walking was hard- so she used to catch a taxi there, time continued along, not stopping for one to take their breath and soon again she was unable to go at all because mobility was too hard, with that came the inability to cook and sooner yet the inability to sew.

She would sit long hours on her chair next to the door, talking became a bit harder and her words issued forth only when she could. Her youngest daughter caring for her at this point incessantly and with all her heart. She would go to work, come back cook for her, clean for her, bathe her, clothe her, feed her, lay her to sleep help her up in the morning. People would come visit her and check up on her, from the local ironing man downstairs to family from the villages.

Sometimes she'd lay in bed and say La ya Aminah, La ya Badi'ah, I want to stay with my girls for a bit longer. SubhanAllah.

One day her grandaughters adopted a cat off the street which was soon to be named mas'ud (the lucky one). He came home and he loved to sit under her feet, all day long and when came nightfall he would sleep cuddled at the bottom of her feet. He wasn't the only cat that showed such affection. A pregnant (rather oddly clean) cat used to come by and when the door would open she would jump straight into her lap and sit to rest sometimes raising her un-clawed paw to touch her cheek. No joke, straight from the door to her lap. She ended up giving birth just outside the door and when days went passed and the babies grew a little they would be placed on her lap and they too would refuse to leave.
It just seemed that all creation loved her, from humans to cats to kittens. Was she a scholar? Well she was illiterate and not a hafizah of the Quran but she had the love of Allah and the Messenger salallahualayhiwasalam in her heart and she really did patiently persevere through the trails of old age. Which were tough, she would sit on her chair all day till her daughter came back from work, shifts from 8-2pm sometimes 8-4pm, alone at home..

Alas came this week that passed, she told her girls she was going to die and she didn't want anyone to wail over her or do a shader (communal get-together in the streets in a make-shift tent for condolences where a sheikh recites Quran for those who've passed away).

(I believe it was) Wednesday that came and she felt as though she had a flu and couldn't really get up from bed. The doctors came to check up on her, many, yet all her vital signs were fine, but she felt cold, and from there it was evident what was taking place.
She had her grandchildren present and from 2am Friday 18/May/2012, it began.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, her eldest daughter had a dream that she had held her by the hand and was walking with her. Till she suddenly found her entering a gate behind which was another gate in a garden. A person was waiting for her at the second gate and shut the door behind her. It was an illuminated place. Her daughter shocked at how she just left her side so suddenly to enter this place.

She had endured the night and near the end she began to say the Shahada, over and over again, perhaps maybe 6 times in a row, with her index finger raised, and she sought refuge in Allah from the accursed satan. 6:30am she returned to Allah; the One who loved her and who made all His creation love her.

They managed to get the nurse in to report her cause of death, her burial shroud was ready and they found at a little mosque down the road a wash bed. There was ease in everything that took place that day.

They washed her body and by the time Jumu'ah had begun she was in the Masjid al Mawasa (her Masjid), this Masjid is extremely full on Friday's and add to that the families of 7 other people who had also been taken to that Masjid for their own family members passing, all these people prayed Janaza on her blessed soul.

Who could not say that was the death like the death of a wali of Allah?
How many times do we pray to Allah that He protect us from a sudden death?
From sever health problems?
How many wish to get one shahada out let alone 6 in a row?
How many are able to seek refuge in Allah from the cursed satan at that point?
How many wish to die on a Jumu'ah where their status is that of a shaheed and they are freed from the trials and punishments of the grave?
How many scholars have had the blessing of all the above? I can name many!
But was she a scholar?
No. But she cared for her neighbours, was considerate, served her household and people from her heart, sewed for them, cooked for them, spoke kind words to them, never showed enmity, was always polite. She was loved by Allah and for that reason all of Creation loved her. She said her shahada although she never spoke much unless she could.. And that is one incredible gift from Allah and it is worth the dunya and everything in it.

I'm blessed to be her grandaughter, she was my grandmother. Amnah Mahamad Abdel Latif. The queen of my heart.
A woman who I loved and is one of the only people I can honestly say made me know the meaning of love.

See how never is it a necessity to be a scholar to earn the death of a scholar?
I only spent 9 months with her in total, I have only given you snippets of what I saw then of her and what I've heard of her. So what of those who lived with her?

Please read fatiha for her soul and for all Muslims who have passed away, that Allah enlighten their graves, raise their ranks, free them from the trials of the grave and admit them into the Highest level of Jannah with the Beloved of Allah.

So that perhaps one day we may have people recite fatiha for us when we need it most.

Surat Al Fajr:

27. (It will be said to the pious believers): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction!

28. "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (unto Him)!

29. "Enter you, then, among My (honoured) slaves,

30. "And enter you My Paradise!"

The Secret Behind the Prophets Tears... Salallahualayhiwasalam

Sayyiduna `Abdullah bin Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:

“The Messenger of Allah salallahualayhiwasalam said to me: “Recite [the Qur’an] to me.” 

I replied, “O Messenger of Allah, you wish for me to recite to you and you are the one to whom the Qur’an was revealed?”

The Messenger of Allah said, “Yes, I like to hear other people recite it.” 

So I recited Surat al‐Nisa’ until I reached this verse:

How will it be when We bring from each people a witness, and We bring you as a witness against these people?

At this point he said: “You have read enough.”

[I looked at him and saw that] his eyes were flowing with tears.” [Bukhari]

Sayyidi al‐Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah preserve him) was asked: what is the secret behind the Prophet’s crying upon hearing this verse?

He replied: the scholars talk about this. They say that he was crying out of fear of Allah, and of course there was no‐one more fearful of Allah than him. Beyond this, however, Allah is ennobling His Prophet in this verse. The fact that he is a witness over the whole of creation, that only Allah’s testimony is above his, is an awesome fact. Also, the fact that he is a witness over the nation for whose welfare he is concerned is a cause of joy and celebration. His tears were thus tears of joy upon receiving this gift and upon being raised by Allah to this station. It is only fitting that someone sheds tears of joy upon receiving Allah’s bounty.

The best physical description of the Messenger salallahu alayhi wasalam

The most complete description of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is the one that was given by Umm Ma`bad, as related to us in the hadîth of Hubaysh b. Khâlid.

When the Prophet (peace be upon him) emigrated from Mecca to Madînah, he passed by the tent of Umm Ma`bad. She witnessed some of his miracles, then swore fealty to him in Islam before he departed.When her husband came back, he was surprised to find with her a quantity of milk.He asked her: “Where you have got this from, O Umm Ma`bad, while our sheep is alone and untouched and we have no milk cow in our home?” She said: “Nay, but by Allah, a blessed man passed by our way and did so and so.”

He said: “Describe him to me, O Umm Ma`bad!”

She said: “I saw a man who is handsome, of glowing countenance, and of good proportions, with neither a large stomach nor a small head. He is smart of appearance, with balanced features, deep black eyes, and long eyelashes. His voice is not coarse. He has a long neck, a full rounded beard, and thick eyebrows that meet each other. When he is silent, he is stately and composed, and when he speaks, his appearance is impressive.

“He is the most beautiful and striking man from a distance and the best and most beautiful from close up. He is well spoken, clear in what he says, saying neither too much nor too little, his words flowing forth like a perfect string of pearls.

“He is neither too tall nor overly short, a stately man in the company of two other stately men, and he is the most prominent among them and the most well-respected.“He has companions who surround him. If he speaks, they listen to him, and if he commands, they hasten to fulfill his command. He is well served and attended, though he is neither stern nor argumentative.”

You will not find Prophet Muhammad in books, Nor will you find him in documentaries, You will not find him in fatwas, Nor will you find him in sermons and seminars, You will not find him in a status update or a chat room... If you are seeking that final brick in the House of Prophecy and Wisdom- You will find him in hands that uplift and educate the weak and oppressed, You will find him on tongues that prevent tyrants from tyranny, You will find him in feet that ache from standing in prayer at night... You will find him in tears that spill over from a heart overflowing with the Water of Love, You will find him in the eyes of Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, You will find him with the one following the footsteps of Bilal, You will find him in a soul annihilated in Fatima, Ali, Hasan, and Husayn, You will find him in a spirit that is gazing at God- And you will find him within you once you are no more. Al Wasiya

The testimony of faith;

لا اله الا الله

La ilaha illa Allah.

This testimony should become alive absorbed ones heart and be manifested in our actions,

When we have hope, it should lie only with Allah

because He is the only one who can fulfil our hopes.

If you have this rajaa (hope) associated and attached to Allah

you'll find that Allah will fulfil all your needs that you are seeking from Him.

When asking Habib Umar,

what do we do to not lose the bounties Allah bestows upon us,

like spiritual favours?

how do we protect that?

He replied with:

kad kafani ilm rabb

-an excerpt from the poem of Imam Al-Haddad,

"sufficient for me is knowledge of my Lord".

Remain always at the door of Allah

constantly,

hoping Allah will bestow His Mercy upon you

Simply because

you are standing at His Door.

Imam Haddad said I learnt how to stand at the door of Allah through observing a child!

He was walking in the streets one day when he saw that a mother had spanked her child and kicked him out of the house,

He said I saw this little boy turn around and stand at her door step

crying and begging

his mother to open the door for him,

Nothing could console him.

His entire attention was directed to his mother in the house,

and he cried to her

oblivious to everything else around him

He cried and cried and cried at her door

until she relented

and opened the door for him.

We need to focus our attention on Allah

and we need to seek

none other than Him

we need to ask

none other than Him

and we should stand

at no other Door

than His

Stand how a beggar would stand.

Beggars are relentless

you push them aside,

ignore them,

tell them to go away

Run away from them

anything

but they're not hearing you,

They're not letting go

theyre sticking by you

relentlessly

Until you give in and give them what they want

and reward their persistence,

And if you knock and persist

at the door of the One who is Most Generous,

He will open for you.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

"In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful"

Never despair in the Mercy of Allah

Allah wants us to know Him through this quality of Mercy,

through His two attributes-

Al Rahman,

Al Rahim,

this is what we recite in the beginning of every chapter in the Quran

and when you begin any task,

We begin in the Name of Allah,

the Most Gracious,

the Most Merciful

We begin with the remembrance of Allah,

Of the 99 names He wants you to know Him

through these two,

Al-Rahman

Al-Rahim,

We are incessantly reminded of those two names

Over and over again

In the Name of Allah

Al-Rahman,

Al-Rahim

Over and over again

In the Name of Allah

Al-Rahman,

Al-Rahim.

Imam hadad says concerning these two names,

turjal illah alathi turja marahimahu-

marahimahu

translates as "His Mercies"

it’s pluralised,

drawing attention to fact that within the Mercy of Allah

lies hidden innumerable Mercies.

It has been related in prophetic tradition,

that the Messenger of Allah,

may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him

said:

Allah created 100 parts to His Mercy,

but that's not the limit of it,

its more expansive than that

As we'll see...

One of those parts is that which Allah descended upon the earth,

with which people show mercy towards one another,

and from this one part the entire universe draws mercy towards one another

and this has been so from beginning of creation and continues until the end of creation

It is from that one Mercy you find that an animal would lift its hoof from the ground out of fear of possibly injuring its baby.

The rest

The 99

are reserved for the Day of Rising

So The Most-Merciful

can bestow it upon His servants.

 

The two titles,

Al-Rahman and Al-Rahim,

Come from the root words

Rahma and Rahima,

However the mercy associated to Al-Rahman

is very different

to the mercy associated to the name of Al-Rahim,

Rahman is that type of mercy that only Allah has

and only Allah can express,

However Rahim

that is a type of mercy that people too, can express.

You can say about a man that he is

Rahim bi ahlih- Merciful towards his family or

Rahim bi 'ibadih- Merciful towards his servants

The name of Allah, Al-Rahman is a wider,

all encompassing form of Mercy

the type Allah refers to when he says

"waRahmati wasi3at- kul shay2"

"And My Mercy overwhelms/encompasses all things"

So that we find that the mercy of Allah is pouring

upon a disbeliever,

upon an athiest,

upon a tyrant, etc.

This is unlimited

unconditional

Mercy.

It overwhelms all his creation regardless of who or what they are,

It is impossible for humans to be able to express this sort of mercy,

We are incapable of showing mercy towards a tyrant for instance or towards unjust people.

On the Day of Rising shaytan will see these remaining 99 abundant Mercies

And although he is doomed,

just through merely seeing these abundant Mercies of Allah,

he thinks perhaps I too can have a share in this!

- he does not lose hope in the Mercy of Allah

But he won't have it because he's outcast and doomed to eternity

And there is nothing he can do to return back

As for everyone else,

its fair game.

If Allah says,

“wa Rahmati wasi3at kul shay2”,

“And My Mercy overwhelms/encompasses all things”

He's talking about His attribute of: Al-Rahman,

However when he specifies where His Mercy is going

for instance:

I've decreed My Mercy for the mutaqeen- those with taqwa (reverant fear),

Or the muhsineen (Muslims who strive with excellence)

then that kind of Mercy is associated to His attribute of : Al-Rahim,

thats the difference between the two

If we understand this attribute of Allah, and we connect to these names,

We should be people who guide others and connect them to Allah through this essential quality.

Don't be a person, who makes another despair of the abundant Mercy of Allah,

Woe upon a person who makes one despair in the abundant Mercy of Allah!

and woe upon them again and again and again!

The Messenger of Allah- May Allah send peace and blessings upon him,

heard two men arguing,

he said he heard one man say

"How will it be that Allah will forgive you?!"

To which Allah's Messenger said:

"manth allathi yata2a 'ala Allah?"

"Who dares to put themselves above Allah!?"

The messenger of Allah informed this man

that he had lost all his good deeds

through saying such a thing.

through being a means of making one of Allah's servants

despair

in Allah's abundant and incessant Mercy.

Yet again we have another tradition,

that relates to Bani Israeel ( the children of Israel)

When a pious rahib (monk) had a brother

- Allah knows best if he was a blood brother or a brother in faith-

who was a sinner

One day the sinner had seen that his hair had turned grey,

he was no longer young, youthful and full of energy

and time was quickly passing him by

he decided to turn back to Allah.

He had felt very sorry for the many years he spent in disobedience to Allah

and he was now seeking

and desiring

the Mercy of Allah

He wanted to be in the presence of this rahib (monk) so that

perhaps! Part of Allah's Mercy that is descending upon him,

would descend upon him too...

So he went to the monk and sat with him,

and the monk had mocked him

He said,

"After 40 years of disobedience, how would Allah accept you?"

To which sayyiduna Musa informed this rahib upon hearing him say such a thing

That in that instance

he had lost all his good deeds

Because of these words he had uttered,

because he dared create despair in one of Allah's repenting servants

in the abundant incessant Mercy of Allah!

And he further informed them that, the sinner had all his sins forgiven!

Then sayyiduna Musa said

Allah said to both of you,

Now, you can both start from scratch.

During the time of the Messenger of Allah,

A rough Bedouin came to him in his mosque in Medina where he and his companions were

and behaved and spoke to him in an insolent manner

saying

"Give him from bayt al maal!

food that you have that doesn't belong

to you or

your mother or

your father!"

SayyidunaUmar was standing next to the messenger of Allah and they report that his eyes rolled with anger!

Thinking how dare he speak with such insolence in the presence of the Messenger of God

in his mosque like that!

To which Allah's Apostle had calmed sayyiduna Umar down

and the other companions who were also in a state of shock

then he took the Bedouin brother aside in his room

and gave him from bayt al maal and asked him

"Are you satisfied O brother?"

To which he replied "No".

So the Messenger of Allah gave him of his own personal food stores

which were sparse anyway

and he asked him again

"Are you happy O brother?"

To which the Bedouin replied

"Yes I am. Indeed! You are a generous man son of a generous man!"

As the Bedouin was leaving the mosque,

he saw the companions standing in their anger,

and he lifted his hands up and supplicated to Allah

"O Allah! Bestow your mercy upon me and Muhammad and no one else besides us!"

To which the Messenger said

"Ya akh al arab (O my Bedouin brother!),

why did you restrict that which is extremely expansive?

Rather say

“O Allah bestow Your Mercy upon me

and Muhammad

and everyone else”".

This is how Allah wants us to know him.

Were approaching Ramadan take note of this.

If people are sinning sometimes and performing good deeds other times,

do not make them despair in the Mercy of Allah,

or think their good deeds are pointless because they are sinning.

Perhaps it may be that Allah will bestow upon them His Favours

through that door of good deeds

and through it correct their sinning behaviour!

It has been related in prophetic tradition

that the companions said to the Messenger of Allah

"O Rasulullah! There is a man among us who prays with us by day

but at night he steals!"

To which the best of creation replied with

"That salah will eventually stop him from sinning"

and it was exactly as Rasullulah, peace be upon him, had said.

Allah says in the Quran:

"innal salata tanha 3anil munkar wal fahshaa2"

“Indeed the prayer restrains shameful and unjust deeds"

Allah showers every person in His Mercy constantly

Some will be affected and they will find their way to Allah

others will remain oblivious and not recognise the Mercies of Allah

But, regardless

He will continue to bestow it upon them.

Don't let anyone despair

Allah's Mercy is there for them until their soul reaches their throat

And they gargle as their soul leaves their body.

If a person at that point will turn towards Allah

He will forgive all the sins of the past

and that person will die with no sins upon them

at all.

Allah said to sayyiduna Dawood,

"Love me and make my creation love Me",

He said, "I can love you but how do I make Your creation love You?"

He said, "Mention My favours and My bounties upon them".

Abu Hurairah said,

"I know a man who will enter Jannah and he hasn't prayed a single rak3ah (unit of prayer) in his life!”

The other companions asked "how can that be? Who is he?" :/

He said "Al Usayrim".

With Usayrim, his entire tribe entered Islam

but he refused

During one of the battles between the Muslimeen and the Kuffar

he was out hunting while his tribe were fighting with the Messenger of Allah

And when he came back to his tribe,

He didn’t find a single member in the settlement

He asked around where they were

And they replied that they were on a campaign,

So he goes with his spear and arrows and he starts fighting with them.

They said stand aside Usayrim, this is serious, and your’ not a Muslim

Don’t interfere right now we have no time for this

He continued to fight with them and when he was wounded and on his death bed,

he said something had entered into my heart when I had returned and found you were all gone

and that's when the kalmia (testimony of faith) entered my heart.

Thats why he picked up his weapons and went to fight with his people.

He said shahada on his death bed,

And after, Rasulullah said, "Usayrim is a man of Jannah!"

Allah's Mercy is extremely vast!

And we need not look further than the story of Wahshey

to see truly

how beyond our imagination

it really is.

Within this story is a great lesson

about how much Allah relents to His servants,

In the Haddith Qudsi Allah says:

"I have created you for Jannah (Paradise)

and Jannah was created for you

and I have created Jahamnam (Hellfire)

and made it haram (forbidden) upon you"

The story of wahshey,

is a beautiful story

about how Allah constantly leaves His door of Rahma

open for people.

Wahshey killed the uncle of Rasulullah salallahualayhiwasalam

Sayyiduna (our master) Hamza

it pained him so much

that even till his death

he cried over him,

It may be hard for one to understand the connection

And why it was that Rasulullah loved Hamza so much

Their mothers were cousins

Their fathers were father and son

They were breast fed by the same nursing mother; Halima

They were childhood and household friends

The age gap between them was a few months (or up to 2 years?)

We have best friends, but this is a whole other level.

When our Master Hamza was killed in battle,

Rasulullah salallahualayhiwasalam performed salatul janaza over him

70 times.

Whenever they prayed janaza over one of the martyrs of Badr

Rasulullah included sayyiduna Hamza in that janaza

70 times

He was so greatly pained by his death,

Initially the Mesenger of Allah made Wahsheys blood halal for anyone who finds him

But later he lifted it and sent him a message asking him to enter the fold of Islam

Saying Islam, teslam- become Muslim and you will find peace

So Wahshey writes back saying, how can I enter into Islam when you say

Allah says: (a verse to the effect of)

Whoever does not worship anyone other than Allah and does not kill a soul unjustly except in the requirement of Justice and does not commit fornication they will find Allah most merciful and if they do, then they will face severe punishment doubled and they will remain in Hellfire abased.

He said I have done all three, why should I enter Islam when I am going to receive such a punishment?

So Rasulullah sallalahulayhiwasalam sent him another message to which Allah had revealed a response to Wahshey,

(that such a punsishment as stated above will fall upon people) Except those who repent and performed salatul Tawbah (prayer of forgiveness) and does good deeds thereafter.

So Wahshey responds, saying but there are three conditions here... Those who

1.       Repent

2.       Perform salatul tawbah

3.       Do good deeds thereafter

I may not be able to do all three, what if I'm only able to do one or two of them? That means I'm still not exempted from punishment. There is no certainty here, give me something else.

So Allah revealed:

“Inna Allah laa yaghfir man yushrik bihi wahyaghfir men duni dhalika liman yashaa.”

“Indeed Allah does not forgive those who take partners unto him, and He forgives besides that to whomever He Wishes”.

And so Wahshey again, said,

“to whomever He wishes! That may not be me!”

So again The Most-Merciful revealed in surat al Zumur the beautiful response:

“Qul ya 'ibaada aladhi asrafu ala anfushim, la taqnatu min rahmatillah, inna Allah yaghfir al dhunuba jami'an, inna huwal ghafooror Rahim”.

“Say O My slaves that have wronged themselves, do not despair from the Mercy of Allah, indeed Allah forgives all sins, indeed He is the Oft-Forgiving, The Merciful”.

When Wahshey received this, he said,

“As for this; then yes”.

Allah is addressing this aya to those who have transgressed and who have disobeyed Him.

Can you hear the Mercy of Allah in these words,

Ya 'ibaadi!

The i in the end of 'ibaadi means possession, that is, you are Mine!

Despite that they have transgressed, they are still Mine.

Who else do you turn to?

Who else do you return to?

Who do we come from and who are we going back to?

Recognise your beginning and end and it will tell you how to conduct yourself in between.

and even after Wahshey accepted and became Muslim

Rasulullah salallahualayhiwasalam accepted his Islam

He didnt outcast him or reject him

but told him not to appear in front of him.

because every time he would see him, he would remember the image of his beloved uncle.

In the haddith Qudsi Allah says:

“He created us for Him

and He created Jannah for us

and He created Jahannam

and He made it forbidden for us”.

 Allah will always send you a means to find your way back

And He will keep doing that for you

Until you meet Him

To have hope in Allah's Mercy, remain constantly at the Door of Allah

In hope

And the Generous who when you stand at His door,

He will open for you

And give you

 

Worship Allah out of gratitude,

Without His guidance where would you be tonight?

We are constantly immersed in the Mercy of Allah

Be overwhelmed with gratitude

That’s how He wants you to know Him

and He wants you to approach Him

So approach Him.
